What was your most embarrassing moment either as a child or adult?
Going to a Halloween costume party in a nightclub three days before the actual party was to take place. It was across the street from the Boston Garden when the circus was in town. I can still hear that child say, “Ma, I don’t remember seeing them in there.”
When was your first date and/or kiss?
Ahhhh, 1971, in the doorway of 174 Bunker Hill Street, in Charlestown, Massachusetts. Of course, it may have been more memorable if she participated. =}
Following the “Breakfast Club” rules to sweeping generalization stereotypes, what kind of teenager were you?
Judd Nelson, baby. For no other reason than the excitement. There was really no other way in Charlestown, Mass during that era. I know that’s a poor excuse, but life as a Townie is a story in itself.
Guilty Pleasures: Song? Movie? TV Show?
Okay, being a former DJ with a love for all music, this one’s tough. I think my all time favorite group would be Tommy James and The Shondells. I never realized, until this year, that they were a spiritual group. Crystal Blue Persuasion, Sweet Cherry Wine, I Think We’re Alone Now, and my all time favorite—Crimson and Clover. Cool Hand Luke, and A Few Good Men have taken a backseat to Body of Lies —> Leonardo DiCaprio. I know this kid can be intense, but this movie is, by far, one of his greatest roles.
And, of course, what household wasn’t glued to their televisions when The Soprano’s were playing?
Describe the best meal you ever had:
Another tough one, Kate. You’re killing me, because I’m a great cook. When I DJ’d I loved watching people get off on my song lineup. The same with cooking. I get a kick out of how many raised eyebrows I see when they discover I did the cooking. So, I’m going to have to say: Stuffed Peppers filled with gourmet rice seasoned with a splash of curry to tickle the tongue. Of course, White Veal Cutlets seasoned in a homemade batter (sorry…secret), and finally, this dish is always complimented with cheese and spinach ravioli.
What’s something on your Bucket List you haven’t tried yet? Why is it on the List? Why haven’t you tried it?
Okay, I know this interview is to bring out the lighter side of me, but this is something I take seriously. I grew up in an era, and a neighborhood, where nobody cared what we did. June 10th of 1981, I was killed. I remember when the doctors lifted me, to slide an x-ray plate under me, there was a priest administering last rights standing beside my table, but the doctors at Mass General never gave up on me. You see, my problem was, I never took school seriously. I was a straight A student for the better part of my schooling, but, back then, you learned more from the streets than anything a book can teach you. At least, that was the mentality. I was influenced by a way of life that had two options: death or jail. Well, unfortunately, I experienced both of them.
However, I learned one very important piece of info from that experience. I learned that, if I just stuck to the books I wouldn’t have this story to tell. So, it’s my mission to help children, our future, understand the importance of education. After all, if they’re not educated, what future will we have? With Sabrina Hunter here to help me, we will see this through. This is my goal.
What’s a story about you your Mother always tells?
If she were with us, I’d have to say when I smacked the doctor for reaching down after he told me to turn my head and cough.
(We’re going Actors Studio style now - rapid fire!!!!!!)
